In recognition of the strategic importance of Buncrana in terms of its size (being the second highest populated town in the County), its location close to Derry City, and as the key gateway to north Inishowen, the Council has commissioned a focused report on these strategic functions of the town and how they might be most appropriately harnessed in the future for the benefit of the town. This report will inform not just the land use Buncrana Local Area Plan but also consideration of other key decisions for the town.
The programme for the preparation of the Buncrana Local Area Plan has been extended to allow the aforementioned Strategic Directions report to be completed in order that the conclusions of that Report can be fully incorporated into the shaping of the land use Local Area Plan.
It is expected that the Strategic Directions Report will be finalized and presented to Members during Quarter 1 of 2020, and that work on the Local Area Plan will accelerate thereafter.
